100 YEAR OLD BLACKBERRY CAKE FROM VIRGINIA

BLACKBERRY CAKE SLICE

1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter or Crisco
5 eggs
2 c. flour
2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 c. blackberries

Cream sugar, shortening, and eggs. Mix together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove.
Add to shortening mix, then mix in buttermilk. Add blackberries last.
Bake in greased and floured tube pan at 350°F for 1 hour.
Frost with caramel or vanilla icing.
